Orillia Kay Key Deer Portrait Study
Orillia Kay, a Key Deer, was born on the most beautiful salt water beach on the most tranquil island of all the Florida Keys. But love, as it has a way of moving us, coaxed her northward to Algonquin where she settled and blossomed.
It was a far different climate from her home, and all the other deer were at least double her size. She could have hunkered down in hibernation, but Orillia was a born sprite with a twinkle in her eye and a way of finding the fun in everything. The move seemed only to make her more outgoing, more empathetic, and more inclusive. If there was a community welcome wagon, she was it. If a party was to be thrown, she’d mastermind an absolute blowout. If there was a game on the tv, she’d have buckets of tasty snacks prepared and her hooves up on the davenport with the rest of the gang.
A few years back, Orillia Kay was craving sunshiny days, where the thermometer never dipped below a balmy 75 - even in January. So, she and her fella decided to spend a few months of each year down on Big Pine Key, beachfront. There, they built a little palapa that quickly became the island’s busiest watering hole. Evenings, the couple happily entertain over quiet dinners followed by a game of Michigan rummy or bridge. That is, when they aren’t hosting rollicking evenings replete with live band, margaritas, and salsa clear into the morning.
